Summer is a great time to enjoy delicious seasonal fruits, one of them being lychee. The lychee fruits are strawberry red in color, oval to round, flowery scent and sweet flesh.

Since lychees were cultivated in Vietnam more than a thousand year ago, lychees are always one of the favorite fruits among locals. They fall for its sweetness with hint of grape and pear favors. More than 80 percent of lychee produced in Vietnam is the popular ‘Thieu’ variety which is grown mainly in the Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces. Lychee has been gaining popularity not only across the country but also been exported to many foreign markets.

In Vietnam, there are many ways to make use of lychee including tea with fresh lychee, lychee cocktails, chicken cooked with lychee, or duck salad with lychee sauce, which are worth giving a try.
